I made it through my first week of class!! Woohoo! It was
really long because we had class everyday from 8am to 3:30pm but I survived. This
week was our literacy week and I loved our professor. She is so cool! I’ve
learned so much more from her in this week than I learned in a whole semester
last year. I could definitely get used to only having each class for a week,
too. It’s so nice to only have to focus on one subject at a time. It makes
homework so much more manageable. It’s a bit of a walk to class though. It
takes us about 40 minutes and it literally is uphill both ways. I know that
doesn’t make any sense but it’s true! After our last session today we had a New
Zealand food feast! It was so good! We had golden kiwis, pavlova (it’s kind of
like angel food cake but it dissolves in your mouth), Tim Tam slams, ice cream,
L and P (kind of like sprite), veggiemite (I didn’t try any… yuck), meat pies,
and some pastries. I love meat pies! They are kind of like the pasties I used
to eat in London. So delicious! Also, our host family came back early! They had
to come home Wednesday night instead of Saturday because of Erin’s work. It’s
nice to have them here because it feels more real now I guess. I don’t know.
Our family is super fun and musical though. They just sit around playing guitar
and uke. It’s awesome! I can’t wait for Pascal to get back from EFY though
because she’s like our buffer because we don’t know the rest of the family very
well yet. We still don’t have internet at our house but we’re hoping that we
will have it soon because now Erika can talk to our host parents about it. We
have internet at the church though where we have class so we can use it during
the day which is nice. I’ve been frustrated and homesick a lot lately and these
first two weeks have been rough for me but things are looking up. I think I’ll
survive a whole semester here. I just miss my family and my friends. It’s also
weird to just have girls in the program. I always have a bunch of guy friends
so it’s going to be weird to go a whole semester with only girls. Maybe me and
Jivarne will be besties. Haha, I can only hope!
Here's our little room!
